Ensuring Quality Data in Vector Control

Protecting public health from vector-borne diseases requires a comprehensive tool-box of safe and effective vector surveillance and control products; and developing, testing, or using these tools effectively requires rigorous data management systems.

If you develop or evaluate vector control products, we can help you guarantee the quality of your data with globally recognized Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) data quality management systems, studies, and archives. If you submit products for WHO prequalification or national registration, we can help prepare effective studies and dossiers. If you conduct or oversee vector control operations, we can help with environmental and health impact assessments and regulatory compliance. And if you need to know what’s available in the toolbox and what’s not, as a vector control technician, researcher, administrator, or funder, we can help you identify products and product gaps.

good laboratory practices (GLP) and Data Quality

Since 2016 we have served as Consultant and Special Advisor to the WHO, PAHO and other entities, training their vector control collaborating centers and other labs in Good Laboratory Practices for product efficacy testing. We have trained national government and university staff from Asia, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and North America in OECD and USEPA GLP compliance requirements, including the latest updated requirements for Computerized System Validation and Test Item Characterization. We have worked with national compliance authorities from around the world, and many of our client labs are now globally recognized for their abilities to generate the highest quality efficacy data.

regulatory support for vector control products

Vector control products must be registered with national authorities before sale, and VCC has a strong track record in supporting registration of new and existing products around the globe, with a focus on ensuring the safety and effectiveness of products with critical roles in protecting public health. For example, we generated the study methods and data on droplet characteristics and deposition to allow an all-crop tolerance for a new mosquito adulticide, which allows use and potential drift over all agricultural commodities without significant risk. We also developed the data packet for the successful urgent US registration of a aircraft disinsection product during the Zika virus outbreak. We are currently supporting registration efforts for conventional, botanical, and fungal products to combat ticks, cockroaches, and bed bugs, as well as mosquitoes.

risk assessments and regulatory compliance for mosquito/vector control programs

Programs to control mosquitoes and other vectors must assess and manage environmental risks; and must comply with a variety of laws and regulations, including measures to protect public health from pesticides and to protect the environment from all activities. Vector Control Consultants has worked with operational mosquito control programs and associations to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and international standards. We have developed programmatic and focused environmental impact reviews for mosquito control districts, obtained permits for wetland habitat modification and pesticide residues in public waters, designed the mosquito data module of a large-scale Wetlands Regional Monitoring Program, and helped develop risk assessment tools for novel VC approaches and products.

Remedie 2.0 - The Pesticide Product App

Data is the ultimate vector control tool - not only data on specific products or substances, but data on ALL of the pesticide and non-pesticide tools that can be used to control vector species (and other pests). Remedie 2.0 is the most comprehensive and authoritative database of information on pesticide products and substances that is available today. With information on over 400,000 products currently or historically registered around the globe, and over 5000 substances that have been used or proposed for use in pesticides; and fields on Identifiers, Pesticide Purpose, Activity, Product Type, Chemical Class, Mode of Action, Regulatory Status, Pests, Use Sites, Use Patterns, and more; this is the ultimate decision support tool for pest control professionals, researchers, and administrators.

Additional information and search features are added daily, and new modules are coming soon to provide direct substance attribute searches, improved exploration on non-pesticide tools, and even build searches with natural language queries. Try it out above, and feel free to contact us with requests or suggestions for additional data or features!
